Self-Talk as Friend-Talk
/When you are frustrated, angry, in pain, or suffering, what is your behavioral instinct? Do you shut down, or do you reach out for support? Do you tend to internalize things and get sad or feel neglected? Or do you lean on friends and family for guidance and advice?
The next time that you are feeling any of the above mentioned, imagine a friend coming to you with whatever issue you are facing. What would you say to that friend? How would you comfort them?
What if you were to say those same exact things to yourself when you are feeling low? If you practice talking to yourself like you would to a friend, you will start to actually see yourself as a friend. By speaking kindly and gently to yourself, you create a much better internal environment for yourself - one that encompasses self-love, acceptance and compassion.
Sending you love,
