Emotional Frequencies

Do you wake up with energy some days,  while other days you feel zapped?

There are many factors that contribute to our energy levels. One of those factors is our emotions. Our feelings and emotions can cause an increase or a decrease in the energy we produce.

The more positive the emotions we feel, the higher the energy we generate. The more adverse the emotion, the lower our energy will feel. As human beings, we are both contributing energy to others and affected by the energy of those around us.

Emotions are vibrations of energy. A way to think of it is: E-motion = Energy In Motion.

Every emotion has a vibrational frequency. It is like a radio station frequency - as you flip through stations, music is coming over radio waves into your car - there is country, pop, hip hop, oldies, christian - all different radio frequencies that are given a number and we go to the number that we enjoy. So you might begin by thinking about different energies like these radio stations - there is a unique frequency for each emotion we feel. Some have a strong vibration and some have a low vibration. But all are a vibration of energy in our bodies.

Psychiatrist Dr. David Hawkins conducted a long term study of energy fields and levels of consciousness from 1965 to 1994. He utilized scientific theories and hypotheses from the fields of kinesiology, psychology, spirituality, and quantum physics. His book Power vs. Force summarizes his methodology and findings. He created a "Map of Consciousness" to include the measurement of energy as it relates to our emotions, life-views, images of God, and the effects of our energy on others.

Dr. Hawkins found that the lowest energy emotions are Shame, Guilt, Apathy, Grief, and Fear. Shame was found to be repeatedly the lowest energetic frequency in Hawkins studies. Every human is going to experience these low-level emotions, yet we don’t want to stay there or we begin to experience exhaustion, despair, and hopelessness. Many of you have experienced the heavy exhaustion of grief - this explains why grief is so exhausting. It literally is taking a toll on your body. It isn’t that we are doing anything wrong here, it is just noticing how draining these emotions can be to our energy levels.

He found the highest energy emotions to be Enlightenment, Peace, Joy, and Love. These are the emotions which will contribute to higher energy levels. In the middle of the chart is Reason, Acceptance, Willingness, Neutrality, Courage, Pride, Anger, and Desire. Desire and Anger are higher vibrations that Fear because they come with forward movement. When we have a desire, we are motivated to seek and grow. When we are angry, we have energy to process and fight. Those are higher energy emotions than the stuckness that comes with shame, guilt, and fear.

Pay attention to what you notice about your own energy and the energy of people around you. If you are feeling low on energy, try to become more cognizant of your emotions. Strive to move yourself "up" the energetic spectrum into more life-giving emotions and notice the increase in energy you feel as a result.

There is a chicken and egg phenomenon here too - if you move your physical energy higher through nutrition, exercise, and sleep, then your emotions improve too - if you are aware of your emotions and work with your brain to move emotionally toward love, peace, and joy, then your physical energy increases too. Which comes first is up to you - if you can be aware and working on your physical and emotional state at the same time, you will naturally have more energy.

In our relationships, energy works like a magnet. The higher you rise on the emotional energy spectrum, the more you will attract people into your presence who match your energetic vibration.

Experiment with tuning into your emotions and noticing how they affect your energy this week.

There is much more you could learn about these concepts in Dr. Hawkins’ research, but for now, think about how your individual emotional energy might affect your relationships, your physical body, and your energy levels. Then think about how the collective energy of our country affects our politics, businesses, economy, society, religions, creativity, innovation, environment, and virtually everything we do. Dr. Hawkins found that emotions of a a group of people can drain energy from individuals and societies.

If we each start paying more attention, we can raise our collective consciousness. If we each work to rise toward compassion, kindness, love, joy, and peace, we not only help ourselves, but we also help everyone around us.

Love begets love,
