Best & Worst Case Scenarios
/Oh goodness…how many times in a single day do we imagine the worst possible scenario happening?
Let’s take a new relationship for example. If you start talking to a new guy or girl and you guys don’t text for a few days, is your first thought - “they’re uninterested in me, have moved on and don’t like me.” This is a perfect example of worst-case-scenario thinking. However, is this worst-case-scenario really the WORST thing? Let’s say that the other person actually wasn’t a good match for you and things fizzled out between the two of you. The chances of you finding another fish in the sea is 110%! So, the worst case isn’t truly the worst is it? Maybe you are disappointed for a short period of time, but in the long run things always end up working out!
There is a tool that you may find helpful in certain situations of stress or pressure. When you are consumed with something happening to you or around you, imagine the absolute worst thing that can happen and the absolute best thing. Is the bad really so bad? Consider how likely each scenario is to actually happen. Consider your history with friends and significant others, your career, etc. - what usually happens for you?
Once you have imagined the best and worst case scenarios, you will have a more level head around the situation at hand. By imagining the worst and best, you see the possibility in two extremes. Choose to believe in the best and expect the best! The greatest thing that you can do in life is have hope - for yourself, others and the world.
Sending you love,
