Speak

Do you have a story inside you that you are afraid to tell?

I invite you to explore why it feels so scary. Is it a fear of judgment, rejection, abandonment, embarrassment, shame, or something else?

Go a little deeper and ask yourself what risks and fears come with the idea of telling your story. Then ask yourself what good might come from sharing your story. Who might be helped by you being brave and generously sharing your life experiences?

I have personal street cred with having a story that I'm afraid to tell. I have lived with a multiple sclerosis diagnosis since 2002, but seldom do I speak of it. Mostly because I don't want people to worry about me, or doubt my abilities, or become known as the downer in conversations. Most of that is my imagination of how it will go rather than truth.

The most important thing that happens when we tell our stories is that someone who is thinking "am I the only one?" feels less alone.

Telling your story honors your experience while also honoring the experience of others. We are all learning what it means to be human. And we are doing it together.

Let's share our stories and help each other. Sharing helps people understand you better, connect more deeply with you, learn a new perspective, feel less alone, and find hope.

This week, write, speak, or record a story about something you have survived, experienced, or learned. Your story is worth telling and hearing. Then share it with someone you trust.

Here is one of my stories, I hope I get to hear yours.

Sending you love,

Ginger
