Three Good Things

Here is a simple practice to try this week:
Every day, pause and name three good things.

Here are a few ways you can begin to do this:

  • You can do this as a family dinner conversation with each person sharing three things.

  • Capture your three things in this simple app or the notes app on your phone.

  • Before you fall asleep, jot down three things in a journal on your nightstand.

  • While you have morning coffee, name three good things.

  • If you get frustrated during the day, list three good things.

  • Start a conversation with a friend by asking them to name three good things, then you share yours.

Our brains are busy keeping us safe and sometimes they need a reminder of what is good in the world around us. This practice is like soul candy for your brain.

The "Three Good Things" practice has been clinically studied with NICU staff to find that listing three good things every day over time led to nurses reporting higher levels of happiness, lower blood pressures, stronger immune systems, improved optimism, increased compassion, and decreased feelings of isolation.

When I get into a funk and everything seems bad, I jump back into this practice and it never fails to bring me back to see the good again. Commit to doing this for a few days and see what you will notice.

Sending you love and more love,

Ginger
