One Thing

This practice is a great one for dialoguing with your inner critic.

1. Bring to mind a phrase your inner critic likes to say to you. Examples might be: You are a mess. You are a klutz. You only eat junk. You are stupid. You can’t cook. You have no friends. You never exercise.

2. Think of one thing you can do each day that makes the inner critic’s statement untrue. My inner critic likes to tell me that I am a mess. So, for 30 days, I committed to make my bed each morning before I left the house.

3. Then, when your inner critic says that statement to you, you have the rebuttal of: That is not true today, I made my bed!

The One Thing practice is a powerful one if you are new to self-compassion. This slight change gives you the power over your inner critic and empowers you to recognize truth from fiction when your inner critic offers you an opinion.

Sending you love,
