Zero to One

Looking for the courage to start something?
Maybe you have the desire to take on a:

  • New career

  • Home project

  • Big commitment

  • Tough conversation

  • Plan to get healthier

  • Move to a new location

On a scale of 1-10, you naturally want it to be a 10. But, it can overwhelming to think about how to do it perfectly. And sometimes, if we can't imagine doing it perfectly, we decide to not do it at all. Our fear of making mistakes keeps us stuck. We watch others accomplish what we long for - they found the courage to start, we can too.

Moving from 0 to 1
Most of us want to do things well...on a scale of 1-10, we want to be as close to a 10 as possible.

Getting started, means we are at a 0. We are beginning. We are not doing it, but we are ready to start doing it.

Consider moving from a 0 to a 1. From deciding to start, to taking the first step in starting.

Make the decision to start or not start, but know that you can't start something and zoom to a 10.

Just move to a 1 then to a 2 and so on.

You will never get to a 10 if you stay at a 0. Our fear of being anything less than 10, will keep us at 0. We can all agree 1 is better than 0. Celebrate being a 1, then 2, then 3.

That thing you have been thinking about doing....forget doing it perfectly, just get started and move from a zero to a one. That is the hardest part. Once you have momentum, things will fall into place and your fear will lessen. Just get started.

Remember times on the playground when you wanted to join your friends on the merry-go-round? You couldn't jump on from standing still. You had to start running alongside and then hop on. Momentum matters.

Take a deep breath and take your next small step. Anytime you feel overwhelmed, remind yourself to move from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4.

You've got this!

Sending you love,
