Adjust Your Expectations
/Many times our frustration and disappointment come as a result of unreasonable expectations. We expect things of other people that they may not be capable of doing, and we expect outcomes that may be beyond reasonable. The truth is, absolutely no one or no thing on this planet is perfect or capable of living a life mistake-free.
So, this being said - what if you chose to lower your bar of expectation? What if you were willing to accept imperfection and humanness for exactly what it is - which is beautiful and unique? What if you gave those around you a break, and as a result experienced more happiness and contentment in your work and social life?
Maybe your job is not very fulfilling, and when you were younger you pictured yourself being in a completely different place than where you are now.
Or, maybe your engaged to a wonderful and kind man or woman, but you always envisioned yourself marrying someone with more money.
Maybe you’re graduating in the top 10% of your law school, but you expected yourself to be in the top 5%.
Whatever it is, these kinds of negative thoughts that stem from unfair expectations and standards for yourself and others are destructive to your happiness and well-being.
Try letting go a little bit, and try setting more realistic expectations for yourself and others. Instead of beating yourself up for not being where you envisioned yourself in your career at age 28, look at how far you have come and how much you have accomplished in other regards! On another note, if you are engaged to a wonderful man or woman, feel grateful and excited that you have found someone who is an incredible human being and treats you with love and care.
When we choose to let go of unreasonable expectations, we give ourselves the opportunity to grow further in the direction of happiness. Give yourself permission to let go, to be happy with where you are and what you have, and to find the good in people and the positivity in circumstances.
Sending you love,
