Election Day

This is a historical day and an emotional one.

We get to live in a democracy with a right to vote for all citizens. We also get to have opinions and choose our loyalties. Some will feel pleased with the election results and some will feel disappointed.

As people who practice compassion and love for all, may this Election Day practice be one that brings peace to our hearts and minds, as well as contribute peace to our nation this week.

Election Day Compassion

With sincerity of wishing the best for others and for yourself, pray or meditate on these words:

To those who feel like they won:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they feel hope.
May they feel loved.

To those who feel like they lost:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they feel hope.
May they feel loved.

To those who feel their rights will change:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they feel hope.
May they feel loved.

To those who feel isolated or alone:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they feel hope.
May they feel loved.

To those who feel their jobs or financial status will change:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they feel hope.
May they feel loved.

To those who feel angry:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they feel hope.
May they feel loved.

To those who feel like an outsider in their own country:

May they feel safe.
May they feel peace.
May they hope.
May they feel loved.

To all who live in the United States:

May we feel safe.
May we feel peace.
May we feel hope.
May we feel loved.

Now gently place your hand on your heart:

May I feel safe.
May I feel peace.
May I feel hope.
May I feel loved.

Remember we have survived contested elections before. Remember we have seen things we feared never come to fruition and things we were excited about never happen. Remember we have been both hopeful and hopeless many times before.

No matter the outcome, as a nation we will continue to be a democracy, arc toward social justice, and foster opportunities for every human to realize their full potential.

As Julian of Norwich taught us, "All will be well. All will be well. All manner of things will be well."

As people made of resilience and compassion, we can handle what is delivered to us. The sun will continue to rise. You will continue to have a purpose. Together, we will continue to believe in the profound power of kindness and love.

Sending you love,
