Allow Flow

Most of us know the experience of watering something with a garden hose and as you pull the hose a little further out, the water stops flowing. You look back toward the source and notice a kink in the hose. After assessing, you undo the kink and the water flows freely again.

The human flow of inspiration, creativity, energy, and emotions work similarly to a garden hose.

There is a source from which the flow originates. With no kinks, the source provides endless supply. However, in humans, things like fear, self-doubt, wanting control, overthinking, and blame cause the flow to stop. Our job is to assess the kink and do the work to untwist it.

We untwist by noticing:

  • Where do I feel pressure, tension, or constriction?

  • Why can’t I relax and feel at ease?

  • What is it I need to release?

  • What am I resisting?

  • Where am I gripping tightly?

  • What is unfolding but I’m afraid to allow it?

  • Where am I out of alignment with my inner knowing?

  • What am I stuck on?

The flow is never gone, it simply waits for us to soften.

Noticing begins the softening.

To play out the metaphor further, we all know that a frustrated pulling of the hose makes the kink even tighter. Sometimes, even more kinks appear as we get more irritated with the situation.

Moving toward it, lifting it gently, and releasing the pressure are our steps toward restoring the flow.

Flow feels like forward movement, life at ease, beautiful unfolding, inspiration, creativity, and positive energy.

Follow the flow this week, notice where life is easy and where life has kinks.

Go towards the flow and connect with your source. Gently untwist the kinks as you find them. You’ll know you’ve done it when you feel the shift from blocked to flowing.

Unkinking with you this week,
