I'm on my way

I celebrated a birthday this month and entered a new decade of life. As my friend said, “when the front number changes, it is significant!” This one feels significant. I’ve noticed that as I am now thinking about the second half of my life, I’m more clear on what I want and don’t want. I love that aging brings more clarity and wisdom. There are things I thought I would have accomplished by 50, that I’m still working on and there are things that can fall off the list of goals because they just aren’t important now as they were before. I was writing a letter to myself this weekend about what this birthday means to me and noticed I was using a practice I wanted to share with you.

Here is a twist on affirmations that you and I can both practice this week, to help ourselves feel hope that we are on our path towards our goals.

You likely have heard of affirmation practices where you are supposed to look in the mirror and say “I am” statements such as: I am beautiful, I am successful, I am an expert, I am worthy. Often those don’t feel fully true to us when we look in the mirror. Here is a small adjustment I suggest:

  • I am on my way to feeling beautiful.

  • I am on my way toward success.

  • I am on my way to becoming an expert.

  • I am on my way to feeling worthy.

When you feel disappointed that you aren’t further along in your journey by now - reframe that though by adding “I’m on my way to…” and it feels like a hug to your brain. We are growing and learning every day and things take longer than we want them to, but we are headed in the right direction.

You are on your way to finding that person.

You are on your way to learning that skill.

You are on your way to making that change.

You are on your way to saying what you need to say.

You are on your way to quitting that unhealthy habit.

You are on your way to trusting yourself.

You are on your way to feeling peaceful.

You are on your way.

And so am I.

I’m grateful we get to grow together.

Sending you love and gratitude,
