Outer Space and Inner Space
/As humans we inhabit both outer and inner spaces.
We have the world around us as our outer space and the world within us as our inner space.
Outer space might include the people, things, cultures, and circumstances surrounding you. Inner space might include the emotions, thoughts, senses, and stirs you feel happening in your brain and body that form your inner experiences.
Have you noticed how your outer spaces affect your inner space?
Do certain colors make you happy?
Does a cluttered space make your brain feel chaotic?
Does a clean desk make you feel more inspired?
Do stimulating environments exhaust you?
Does the buzz of people at a party make you feel energized?
Have you noticed how your inner space affects your outer space?
When you are happy, do you notice everyone around you seems happier?
When you are overwhelmed, what space in your home helps you feel calmer?
When you feel joyful, do you notice a spring in your step?
When you feel depressed, do the dishes and laundry begin to pile up?
When you need comfort, what do you reach for?
Take some time this week to notice how the spaces around you affect what you feel inside. Also notice how you are feeling inside and how that affects your behaviors and environments.
This practice of noticing can bring clarity to you in times where you wonder why you feel out of alignment.
Consider the people, things, environments, and experiences in your outer space. Consider the emotions, thoughts, senses, and stirs in your inner space.
You will begin to notice patterns of cause and effect:
When my outer spaces are ____, I feel ____.
When my inner space feels ____, I need ____.
When my environment is ____, I feel ____.
When my insides are ____, my spaces need to be ____.
When I notice ____ on the inside, I want ____ on the outside.
When I notice ____ on the outside, I need ____ on the inside.
The space around us and inside us shapes our experiences.
Begin to tune in a little bit more intentionally to your outer and inner spaces. See what you notice.
Happy exploring your inner and outer space,
